Quality Assurance Rounds
The quality assurance rounds at LHSC fall into three main categories:
1. Presentations by Anesthesia Residents, Fellows and Faculty: Rounds presented by anesthesia residents, fellows and faculty mainly consist of interesting case presentations followed by detailed review and discussion of salient points.
2. Outcomes: All cases with unfavourable outcomes are discussed in a positive and constructive manner (surgical colleagues are also invited).
3. Non-Anesthesia Related Topics: Important non-anesthesia related topics are selected and speakers are invited from other specialties (e.g. fire safety rounds, internet search for medical literature, etc.).
Rounds at SJHC
Residents choose interesting topics or cases that they are involved in directly.
Uncommon topics may also be presented such as those that may occur at SJHC due to the nature of practice (i.e. obstetrical, or regional anesthesia).
Thursday morning rounds are similar. Topics are presented by consultants related to SJHC practice.
Citywide Rounds
Citywide rounds (or Grand rounds as they have been known in the past) are a coordinated part of CME planning for the Department of Anesthesia & Perioperative Care. Clinical updates for the general anesthesiologist are presented on a two year rotational cycle of the subspecialties in the Dept. (Cardiac, Neuro, Regional, Acute Pain Medicine, Transplant, Thoracic, Trauma. Obstetrical, and Chronic Pain Management). Each site also has site specific rounds that included M&M , patient safety measures of equipment introduction/education and case presentations.
